9 Pangarau
In Year 9 Pāngarau students initially focus on developing core Number and Algebra skills. These are designed to give them the building blocks needed for future success in Pāngarau. Following our mid-year examination, we shift on to the contextual topics (for example, Buildings, Sports, Gaming, Travel and Culture) to explore how Pāngarau can be applied to these settings.
Mathematics and Statistics in Year 9 is delivere
d at Level 4 and 5 of the curriculum but will be adapted to suit the current level of each student. We aim to secure the building blocks each student will need to confidently move forward in Mathematics and Statistics, and to encourage them to develop a logical way of approaching problems based on contextual situations.
Using a mix of written, practical and online activities, students will focus on key Mathematical and Statistical skills in areas such as Number work, Geometry, Measurement, Data Handling, Algebra and Problem Solving. Students will be encouraged to work both individually as well as collaboratively depending upon the task at hand.
