Year 9 Mathematics

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mr C. Okey.

Year 9 Mathematics

Mathematics and Statistics in Year 9 is delivered at Level 4 and 5 of the curriculum but will be adapted to suit the current level of each student.  We aim to secure the building blocks each student will need to confidently move forward in Mathematics and Statistics, and to encourage them to develop a logical way of approaching problems based on contextual situations.

Using a mix of written, practical and online activities, students will focus on key Mathematical and Statistical skills in areas such as Number, Geometry, Measurement, Data Handling, Algebra and Problem Solving. Students will be encouraged to work both individually as well as collaboratively depending upon the task at hand.

Assessment

Mathematics is assessed both through in-class tests on content and method and on project based work, using both calculator and non-calculator approaches.

In addition there will be a Mid-Year Examination and End-of-Year Examination.

Assessments are designed to allow students to access all grade levels and to build on their grades as the year progresses.
