Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mr C. Okey.

Year 9 Mathematics Extension

Year 9 Mathematics Extension is delivered at level 4 and 5 of the curriculum and encourages students to develop a logical way of approaching problems based on contextual situations. The topics covered give a broad, foundation understanding required to progress further in Mathematics and Statistics. The course emphasises using logical and critical thinking to solve more complex mathematical problems. Report grades are based on teacher observation in class, homework, tests, projects and examinations.

Assessment

Mathematics is assessed through term marks made up of in-class tests on content and method and on project based work, using both calculator and non-calculator approaches.

These marks contribute to the Mid-Year Examinations and End-of-Year Examinations.
