Rūmaki - Nga Toi Ataata Tau 9

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Matua J. Waititi.

9 Toi Ataata

Nau mai haere mai ki Te Puna o Ngā Mātauranga Māori.

Welcome to Te Puna, the Faculty of te reo Māori, Te Ao Haka, the Māori Performing Arts and Te Whānau Rūmaki.

In Toi Ataata our main kaupapa is exploring our Tuākiritanga. This course is intended to develop both the technical art-making skills to allow our tamatane to express their identity and culture visually, as well as equipping them with creative thinking skills that allow them to solve visual problems.

The three units that ākonga work through are, He tā, He Peita and He Perehi. The rangatahi proudly explore tikanga around kōwhaiwhai, visual pepeha and our roles as kaitiaki of our Taonga o Aotearoa. Toi ataata supports ākonga to explore creative ideas in visual media, both as kaititiro (viewers) and ringatoi (artists). In toi ataata our tamatane are supported to achieve success – whatever that may look like for them.

Tuakua kia tū takitahi ngā whetū o te rangi.
