Year 9 Physical Education
Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Mr R. Scivier.
Year 9 Physical Education
The course is designed to encourage students to become physically educated adults who enjoy physical activity. This is achieved through overriding principles, which are; to be connected with others; develop physical capacity and skills; develop a holistic knowledge base; encourage persistence and challenge personal limits. The students are measured through observations made during practical lessons against set criteria, along with online assessments conducted.
The course covers a range of different skills, whereby students need to develop and apply their understanding in familiar and less familiar contexts. Activities the students will engage in include; Football, Basketball, Rugby, Tchoukball, Athletics, Softball, Maori Sports, Cricket, Lacrosse, Volleyball and more.
Students are expected to bring in their kit for each lesson and engage with enthusiasm and effort for each activity they engage in, developing themselves and the skill-set they possess.
Assessment
Students are assessed through regular in-class assessment. These take the form of teacher observations, success criteria of tasks and peer and self reflection upon the skills and activities students engage in.
There are no formal examinations but the students will have an online assessment at the end of each unit of work.
The results for this course will be part of the Mid-Year or End of Year report.
The results will not count towards overall class rank.
