Year 9 Design & Visual Communication

Year 9 Design & Visual Communication (DVC) focuses on drawing skills and technique as well as project-based assignments that incorporate these skills. Topics covered include Freehand Drawing, Rendering with markers, Lettering, and a Photoshop project based on designing a new NZ bank note. 

DVC in Year 9 is compulsory and a half-year taster course for students to cover a wide range of skills and creativity. If you enjoy the course you are welcome to select Year 10 DVC as a full year subject the following year. 


Assessment

Students will be assessed on: 

Freehand drawing skills

Rendering skills

Money Design Project

Entry Criteria

All Year 9 students will study Design & Visual Communication for two terms, (half year)  3 times within the 6-day cycle.

Equipment/Stationery and Course Costs

As this course makes extensive use of digital learning material. It is expected that you will have a laptop or other suitable learning device available for each class when required.

Pathway

DVC is an appropriate subject choice if you wish to pursue a career in the following: graphic design, architecture, industrial design, engineering, interactive design, fine arts, illustration, interior design, web design, product design, advertising and any other creative outlet.
