Level 2 Physics
Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Ms R. Li.
Level 2 Physics
This is the main Physics course at Level 2, and it leads to University Approved Physics at Level 3. Please note that achievement in Physics relies on strong mathematical skills, particularly in algebra and trigonometry.
The course begins a deeper investigation and analysis of the Physical World. Students are introduced to the principles of projectile motion, momentum, optics, electrical generators and motors, and many more. One internally assessed practical gives students the chance to further develop their ability to determine how physical quantities can affect each other. The second internal standard is allows students to apply their knowledge of wave behaviour to a real world context.
Entry Criteria
Entry into Level 2 Physics requires BOTH:
- Successful completion of a Level 1 course in Science - Core (11SCI/11SCIE)
- AND An Achieved grade or higher in the Mechanics (Science 1.1) external examination
It is strongly recommended that students wishing to study Physics at Level 2 and higher have a good grasp of Algebra and Trigonometry. Students who have not passed Algebra and Trigonometry at Level 1 with Merit (or higher) are likely to struggle with the demands of this course.
Students must also meet the requirements to study a Level 2 NCEA Award.
