Year 9 Music - Option

Course Description

Year 9 Option Music

This is a full year course for students who are already learning a musical instrument. Students taking this course will be expected to give musical performances both as a soloist and in groups. They will compose music in a variety of styles, study and explore new styles of music from the world around them, and they will expand their musical literacy by developing their skills in aural and theory. 

A study of sound through listening, aural analysis, and performance. 


Assessment

Regular in-class assessment. These take the form of on-going in-class performance assessment. There are no formal examinations.

The results for this course will be part of the Mid-Year or End of Year report.

The results will not count towards overall class rank.



Entry Criteria

This is an open entry course. Students must be having instrument or voice lessons outside of class (for example through the itinerant music lessons scheme offered at WBHS).

Equipment/Stationery and Course Costs

As this course makes extensive use of digital learning material. It is expected that you will have a laptop or other suitable learning device available for each class when required.

Pathway

An education in contemporary music can lead to many career pathways, making use of skills developed either centrally or laterally. Consider careers in performance, audio technician, music studio production, live-sound production, songwriting, music editor, music/entertainment journalism, media liaison, communications, music education, tutor, etc.
