Music
Music Department
Music is a unique form of communication in which ideas, emotions, images, moods and meaning are conveyed through sound. It is also a highly developed art form in which all of these things can be expressed through a sophisticated and coherent notated language. It enables us to give form to feelings and to experience and value the feelings of others. It is an important part of the New Zealand teenage culture and therefore a valued part of the New Zealand Curriculum. The creative processes that we draw on in Music have wider applications: they develop our capacity for lateral thinking, expression and for involving the imagination in problem solving. Musicians are self-motivated, highly- organised, thinking students who often feature as top achievers in a wide variety of subjects.
