Year 9 Social Studies - Extension
Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Miss M. Learmonth.
Year 9 Social Studies Extension
Social Studies explores how societies work and how people can participate as critical, active, informed, and responsible citizens. We do this through inquiry into migration, past and current conflicts, the origin of resources and consumer goods, global issues, and sustainability. Students will be taught to develop the skills and competencies needed to make them global citizens who are aware of the impact of their own and collective actions, and of the value of understanding different perspectives.
Assessment
Social Studies is assessed through skills and knowledge based assessments that include regular, formative in-class and summative in-class assessment .
These marks contribute to the Mid-Year Examinations (counting 33% of the marks for the year) and End of Year Examinations (counting 67% of the marks for the year).
These marks count towards the students overall ranking in the year group.
