Welcome to Te Puna, the Faculty of te reo Māori, Te Ao Haka, the Māori Performing Arts and Te Whānau Rūmaki.
Nau mai haere mai ki Te Ao Haka
Students will be entered into 4 standards, 2 internal standards, and 2 external standards. Students will be taken on a journey exploring the many dimensions of Te Ao Haka. Students will investigate the performance elements and features of Te Ao Haka and strengthen their performance skills in kapa haka.
Students will learn and perform a variety of items over the year from various composers and iwi, as well as having the opportunity to compose and choreograph items aligning to the themes in Te Ao Haka!

Course Overview
Term 1
Students will learn items to perform at Polyfest.
Students will also do the following standard: AS91980 Explore elements to create a section of a Te Ao Haka item
Students will be allowed to compose and choreograph their item
Whakataetae Haka
Term 2
Students will continue to learn items for their performance portfolio
Internal assessment 91981 Perform a Te Ao Haka item to respond to a local kaupapa
Students will attend Nga Manu Korero
Term 3
The focus for Term 3 will be the two external assessments
91982 Compare a Te Ao Haka performance and one other performance 4 credits
91983 Respond to a Te Ao Haka performance 4 credits
Students will continue to learn items for their performance portfolio
Term 4
Performance at Te Ahurea Tino Rangatiratanga
Entry Criteria
Restricted entry: Successful completion of Year 11 Te Ao Haka is recommended. If you have not taken 11TAH, please see Matua Johnny and request an exemption.

You will be assessed in this course through all or a selection of the standards listed below.
