NCEA TE AO HAKA LEVEL 3

Students will be entered into 4 standards, 2 internal standards, and 2 external standards. Students will be taken on a journey exploring the many dimensions of Te Ao Haka. Students will investigate the performance elements and features of Te Ao Haka and strengthen their performance skills in the Maori Performing Arts.  Students will learn and perform a variety of items over the year from various composers and iwi and perform at significant school kaupapa and events such as Polyfest and Te Ahurea Tino Rangatiratanga.

The focus of Level 3 Te Ao Haka is to perfect and affirm all of the skills students learned at Level 1 and Level 2. Students will be asked to reflect on their journey in Te Ao Haka in a particular discipline and look at aspects of leadership in Te Ao Haka. Te Ao Haka level 3 is a culmination of all the learning done in the previous levels of Te Ao Haka.

Course Overview

Term 1
Students will learn items for school events and Polyfest which will contribute to their performance portfolio for the following standard.
US 32955 Perform a Māori performing arts bracket with expression 15 credits
Students will reflect on a discipline for the evidence AS91984 Reflect on a personal learning journey in a discipline of Te Ao Haka 5 credits

Term 2
Students will continue to learn items for their performance portfolio which will contribute to the following standard:
91986 Perform two Te Ao Haka disciplines 5 credits
Students will attend Nga Manu Korero

Term 3
Students will continue to learn items for their performance portfolio which will contribute to the following standard:
91985 Perform three categories within a discipline of Te Ao Haka
Students will prepare their performance bracket for Te Ahurea Tino Rangatiratanga

Term 4
Performance at Te Ahurea Tino Rangatiratanga
External assessment 91987 Demonstrate understanding of a key role within Te Ao Haka 5 credits
