9ELA

Year 9 English Language Acquisition

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mr C. Wilson.

9 English Language Acquisition

The 9ELA course gives English Language Learners (ELLs) opportunities to develop oral, aural and written English language skills in smaller class sizes with more 1 on 1 teacher time.  The course of learning follows closely to mainstream English and allows students the opportunity to progress to mainstream if pleasing progress is made.

To develop their skills, students are immersed in rich texts including fiction, non-fiction, poetry, performance texts and visual language texts. Through a range of literacy and language building activities ELLs gain confidence in producing their own oral and written texts in English. They also develop the key competencies and learn about the bi-cultural heritage of New Zealand through reading and interaction.
