Year 11 English for Academic Purposes - Reading & Listening

The Year 11 English Literacy Programme Reading course is designed to help students
improve their reading skills using contexts from the Home Economics and Health
domains. During the year, students will explore concepts of well-being, health,
nutrition, culture, values and the importance of community participation,
exploring different cultural perspectives, values and viewpoints towards health
and well-being both in New Zealand and internationally.

As part of the programme for Year 11 English Literacy Programme Reading, students will also study high frequency vocabulary, reading strategies, comprehension and fluency strategies. Students will also learn to understand the difference between explicit and implicit ideas in texts which leads into the skills needed for the University Entrance Courses at Year 12 and 13.

Entry Criteria

This course is designed for students who are not native English speakers.
