Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Ms R. Li.
Level 3 Physics - Extension
This course is excellent preparation for university Physics and covers a wide range of topics and skills, from the study of planetary motion and oscillations to AC circuits and the Doppler Effect. The broad topics are mechanical, wave and electrical systems, with practical skills taught and assessed alongside in preparation for tertiary study.
Students who are accepted into this course are prepared for and enter the New Zealand Scholarship Examination in Physics.
It is a requirement for all students in a Level 3 Extension course to sit the Scholarship exam.
Entry Criteria
Entry into Level 3 Physics Extension requires successful completion of Level 2 Extension Physics at a typically high standard. As a guideline, the majority of students' achievements in the Level 2 Extension course should be at Excellence level.
Students gaining Excellence across their in-school and NCEA assessments in Level 2 Physics may also be considered for this course.
Consistent effort is an important contributor to success in Level 3 Extension courses, so provisional placement into the course will depend upon achievement throughout the year (not only NCEA results).
With the number of places available in this course being limited, final decisions on placements will be made once NCEA results are available in January.
