Year 11 History - Extension
11HISE Course DescriptionTeacher in Charge: Mr S. Gardiner.
Entry CriteriaThis is a restricted entry course. To gain entry into the Level 1 History Extension students must:
- Be taking an extension course currently, or
- Request entry into the course as part of the course selection process.
Final entry into extension courses will:
- occur after the End of Year Junior School Examinations
- depend on academic results
- require the approval of the Deputy Headmaster responsible for extension courses.
Year 11 History Extension
This course focuses on conflict and change. We explore the Crusades, Palestine - Israel, and a selection of New Zealand related topics. These may include topics such as the Nuclear Free Movement and the Dawn Raids. By analysing both international and local events, we are better able to make sense of the world, both in the past and present. We further develop critical thinking, research skills, and the ability to create a convincing argument through independent inquiry and source analysis. Students will be extended through historical debate and discussion that sees history as an interpretation rather than only a series of events.
