Level 3 History - Extension
13HISE Course DescriptionTeacher in Charge: Mr S. Gardiner.
Entry CriteriaThis is a restricted entry course. To gain entry into a Level 3 Extension course students must:
- be taking an extension course currently or
- request entry into the course as part of the course selection process.
Final entry into extension courses:
- depend on academic results or
- require the approval of the Deputy Headmaster responsible for extension courses.
Level 3 History Extension
This course focuses on causes and effects, continuity and change, interpretations and historiography by examining pivotal historical events of the past. Topics investigated may include the nuclear bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki that resulted in the end of the Second World War and the Civil Rights Movement in the USA during the 1950s and 60s. Students will further develop their analytical and essay-writing skills through a range of assessment methods. Extending oral and written communication skills are a key focus of the teaching of History at Westlake Boys High School. The expectation to undertake History Scholarship is a mandatory requirement for this course. History is an approved subject for University.
It is a requirement for all students in a Level 3 Extension course to sit the Scholarship exam.

This course makes significant use of digital learning material at various times during the year. It is advantageous for a student to have a laptop during these times. Some learning activities, including assessments, will not be able to be completed without a laptop.
